The Miller-Cory herb garden was named for Florence M. Wallace whose family foundation grant was the impetus for the initial fund raising efforts to, purchase the Miller-Cory House as Westfield's first museum. The well house in the herb garden was moved to the property from Whippany, N.J. by the previous owners of the Miller-Cory House. For display purposes it was placed in the herb garden. The original wellstead for the Miller-Cory farm was located on adjacent property not owned by the museum at the present time.

For educational purposes, the herb garden is arranged in four sections, each representing a major use of herbs: medicinal, fragrant, culinary and bee herbs. Herbs were brought to America by the colonists for use in making medicines, preserving food, cooking and for many household uses such as preventing moths, catching rats and attracting bees.
